Psalm 107:1 KJV
1 O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.
Comment.
I normally use the NIV, but ran across this today and compared to the NIV, Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever, the KJV is much more poetic in my opinion. And did you know the Psalms are divided into five books internally and this Psalm of Thanksgiving begins the fifth book, Psalm 107-150.
The first three verses of this Psalm are the introduction to a historical look at the faithfulness and mercy of God for Israel, O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy; And gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south. And tells four stories of how God rescued His people Israel through verse 43.
Each story ends with a call for those saved or delivered to thank God. The first is from verse eight, Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! The next three, verses 15, 21, 31 are all identical! And the Psalm closes with Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the Lord.
With all of this in mind, what is your story or what are your stories where you have good reason to praise he Lord for his goodness and for His wonderful works in your life? Today would be a good day to reflect upon your story or stories where you have good reason to praise he Lord for his goodness. Or as verse one says, O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. I don’t know about you, but I have a boatload of stories where I am incredibly grateful for His loving mercies. Especially His mercy and grace through His Son, Jesus the Christ, my Lord and Savior.
Our turkey is cooking to slowing for some reason. Maybe the over needs an overhaul? I don’t know and it does not matter, this is a day to reflect on the incredible number of things I am thankful for. How about you?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, Thank You for bringing so many blessings into my life and making me aware of them. They range from salvation through Your Son, my wonderful bride, our daughter and son, our wonderful grandchildren, our health, the ability to enjoy sunrises and sunsets. And I have only begun to touch upon the many-many wonderful blessings in my life. Thank You once again. – In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
