Joshua 1:9 RSV
9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; be not frightened, neither be dismayed; for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Comment.
I received a Christmas card on Tuesday while picking up food for our church’s food ministry. Picking up is something of a misnomer as the food is first off loaded from a large truck after picking it up at GFS (Gordon Food Service). It is hauled to LEC (Life Enrichment Center) in Dayton where a number of pallets of food are off-loaded. It is only then that the food is broken down into eight to ten pallets for various churches and outreach ministries.
This past Tuesday there were only eight pallets for the churches plus one for an outreach – Dawn’s. Dawn could not be there so normally she does not get a full pallet as the rest of us do. Somehow though food for her to distribute gets to her home and the commercial refrigerators she has in her garage. She is being treated for cancer and I believe it is stage four.
On Tuesday most of us who have been working with LEC for a church’s food ministry got a Christmas card. They were all from Dawn. I don’t know what the others got in their envelops with their cards, but I got three small pieces of candy. Delicious. And a gift card for Kroger’s. Inside the Christmas card was the verse from Joshua you see above. The card also said, Hope your Holiday is Warm and Cozy! Above her signature she wrote, Thanks for helping.
I cannot imagine what Dawn is going through, but I am asking you to pray for her. Her good courage and caring for others provide an example I hope I can follow should such a time ever come for me. She is simply amazing as a sister in Christ, especially as Christmas approaches.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, Please look out for our sister Dawn who has shown us great good courage and kindness while she goes through great tribulations. Thank You for putting such examples in my life. – In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
