Psalm 92:13 NKJV
13 Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God.
Comment.
Came across this verse while listening to David Wilkerson’s sermon on Don’t Judge Your Spiritual Condition by Your Feelings on youtube.com here shortly after the 18-minute mark. Wilkerson declares this verse is a covenant promise and applies to those who are “planted” in Jesus Christ.
But is this a covenant promise applicable to those that believe in His word and declare Him as their Lord per Wilkerson? He then states that you are going to flourish, bloom like a bud bursting with life. David Guzik appears to agree when he writes, God’s house, the place of His presence, is the place where believers are both planted and where they continually live and flourish.
Looking further at verse 14, They shall still bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing. Here Guzik adds, One might say that they are in the presence of the LORD from beginning to end, and they still bear fruit in old age, which is again in agreement with Wilkerson. It’s not just Guzik, for the Benson Commentary states, Those that be planted in the house of the Lord — In his church, of which all righteous persons are real and living members: those whom God, by his gracious providence and Holy Spirit, hath planted and fixed there, and incorporated with his people; shall flourish in the courts of our God. And then adds concerning verse 14, When their natural strength decays it shall be renewed: their last days shall be their best days, wherein, as they shall grow in grace, so they shall increase in comfort and blessedness.
I can’t speak for you younger folks, but as I approach my 74th birthday in just over a month, I find these words very comforting. Perhaps for younger believers, this might be something to really look forward to as they grow older. This somehow brings to mind for me one of my favorite verses from Psalms, 1:3, And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. Of course, the ‘he’ in this verse is described in verses one and two, Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. As we grow in our faith over time, those two verses become more and more descriptive of us in our faith and our walk with Christ. That by the way is how David Wilkerson continues with his sermon, check it out via the link provided.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, You have made so many wonderful covenants with us, but none greater than the one with Jesus through His blood shed on the cross for our sins. Help us to walk closer and closer to Your will as the days, weeks, months, and years go by. – In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
