Jesus has been crucified and died on the cross for our sins, taking His Father’s wrath upon Himself for us. He died there, And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. And then something amazing happed, At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.
What does this mean? What does it mean for Jews and Gentiles alike? When Jesus yielded His spirit to death of His own volition. He was and is in full control over His destiny, for even as He submitted Himself to His Father’s will. At the moment of Jesus’ death, the curtain of the temple was torn apart. Sixty feet high and thirty feet wide, this curtain separated the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place. The tear signifies the removal of separation between God and His people. Then there is Jesus’ resurrection three days later. (Source – NIV Grace and Truth Study Bible)
His crucifixion to take on His Father’s wrath for us is what we call Good Friday, we might also call it Independence Day as all were freed from the Law and granted salvation along with freedom from the chains of sin.
Bottom Line: While we celebrate our nation’s Independence Day, let us never forget the price paid for our spiritual Independence Day on Good Friday almost 2,000 years ago.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, Thank You for the blessings that flow from Good Friday. – In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
