Comments

The three versions above were chosen as they say the same thing, but with subtle differences. Consider the NIV where the grace of God has appeared. And now that it has appeared it [the grace of God] offers salvation to all people. Next consider the ESV where again the grace of God has appeared. What does it [the grace of God] do? It brings salvation to all people. Then we have the NKJV where the grace of God has appeared to all men. And it is the grace of God that brings salvation.

Of course, the grace Paul is writing about is God’s unmerited, undeserved, unearned, unwarranted favor and forgiveness. It, God’s grace, appearing through Christ on the cross, paying the ransom for our sins. We could not do it. Only sinless Jesus could do it, just as Isaiah 53:5 and 10-11a said He would, he was pierced for our transgressions,he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed and 10 Yet it was the Lord’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the Lord makes his life an offering for sin, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the Lord will prosper in his hand. 11a After he has suffered, he will see the light of life and be satisfied.

Now we could go back and everywhere we read grace of God, we could replace it with Son of God or Jesus the Christ as they are synonymous with each other here. For indeed it was Jesus who brought salvation for all mankind if they would but accept it.

Now let’s look at the Verse of the Day with the following three verses and discover what is expected of us after we have accepted the free gift of grace. 11 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. 12 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, 13 while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good. Clearly, we are to turn from sin (ungodliness and worldly passions) and live a life reflecting the grace we have received. And their age when Paul wrote this was just as corrupt as our present age. So we too wait on the return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Bottom Line: We have accepted the gift of grace offered to all mankind, now let us live a life of heartfelt thankfulness while waiting for the return of Jesus.

Prayer: Almighty God, Thank You for providing grace we might partake of through Your Son. Help us to live lives worthy of such an undeserved gift. – In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
