Psalm 69:30 NIV
I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving.
Psalm 100:4 NIV
Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.
1 Corinthians 10:16 NIV
Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ?
It is Thanksgiving Day and I have chosen three verses for today. BTW, if you search not for Thanksgiving, but Give Thanks at biblegateway you will find 48 in the Old Testament and 18 in the New Testament along with the 30 references to Thanksgiving in the Old Testament and 17 in the New Testament in the NIV mentioned yesterday.
In Matthew 26:26-28 we have given thanks instead of give thanks where at the Last Supper or First Communion where Jesus establishes a new covenant. While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to His disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is My body.” Then he took a cup, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is My blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”
President George Washington may have established Thanksgiving Day (see attachment) as a day of thanksgiving 231 years ago, but Jesus gave us a reason to give thanks every day over 2,000 years ago. Have a great Day of Thanksgiving, remember all we have to be thankful for comes from Almighty God and especially salvation through His Son.
Prayer: Heavenly Father – We are so thankful for Your Son Jesus and the New Covenant He established so that we can look forward to eternity in heaven with You, Him, and the Holy Spirit. – In Jesus name. Amen.
