Recap: typology – A literary hermeneutical device (interpretation) in which a person, event, or institution in the Old Testament is understood to correspond with a person, place, event, or institution in the New Testament.
VS 17 – “the people increased and multiplied”: The Hebrews were content in Egypt.
VS 25 – “He supposed his brothers would understand”: Just as God directed and used Pharaoh to wean the Israelites from Egypt Moses was God’s agent in leading them out.
VS 33 – “The place where you are standing is holy ground”: Holiness is where God is.
“Jesus, where’er thy people meet,
There they behold thy mercy-seat;
Where’er they seek thee, thou art found,
And every place is hallowed ground.” – William Cowper
Vs 39 – “our fathers refused to obey… in their hearts”: Theme throughout all of scripture. What do we honor in our Hearts?
VS 42 – “host of heaven”: represents planetary powers; of the planets, stars, moons, etc.
Vs 48 – “the Most High does not dwell in houses made by hands”: Why do we try to contain God?
VS 51 – “You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in the hearts and ears”: Stephen turns his
accusations against him onto the Counsel themselves.
VS 54 – “they were enraged”: notice the difference between the reactions when being accused. Reference – Proverbs 29:9-10
VS 60 – “Lord do not hold the sin against them”: what are we holding against others that God isn’t?
