Your Living Sacrifice – Holy and Acceptable /Pleasing

REVIEW: Matthew 26:26-28 Communion
While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to His disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is My body.” Then He took a cup, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is My blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”

Romans 11:33-36 Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!

  • How unsearchable His judgments, and His paths beyond tracing out! Job 11:7-9
  • “Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been His counselor?” Isaiah 40:13-14
  • “Who has ever given to God, that God should repay them?” Job 35:7
  • For from Him and through Him and for Him are all things. John 1:3
  • To Him be the glory forever! Amen. John 1:14
  • He must become greater; I must become less. John 3:30-31a  The one who comes from above is above all.

12:1-2 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will.

10:9-10 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

Why are you here? Have you made Jesus Lord of your life? Savior and Lord? Lord and Savior? Savior yes, Lord …. maybe, maybe not. Are you still waiting for a reason to make Him Lord?

1 Peter 3:15a and James 4:7a This is what it means to make Him Lord

12:1 Paul is doing his best to convince you, the readers and hearers of what he has written, to make Jesus the Lord of your life … that is what it means to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice

Mark 12:33 Bring yourself to the alter with one major incredible difference – you don’t die! Instead you live your life for the Lord. You say to Him, “I am yours. Do with me whatever you will. I am yours.” That is what it means to offer your body as a living sacrifice!

Most people don’t do this until something happens in their life that they cannot fix or handle, then they have a need to make Jesus the Lord of their life and they turn their life over to Him. Have you done this yet?

12:1 Therefore … refers to everything Paul has said in Romans up to this point, but especially to 11:33-36

Why should you make Jesus the Lord of your life? Because He and He alone paid the price for your sin and freed you from the punishment you deserved.

12:1 holy and pleasing/acceptable. Holy means set apart for God’s purpose. Acceptable – many times in OT God found sacrifices detestable – when they were empty rituals and the hearts were not involved

Holy and acceptable 1 Peter 2:4-5 Remember our communion earlier? This occurs through Jesus, through His blood. His blood makes us spotless, just as the OT sacrifices had to be without blemish or spot.

12:1 your true and proper worship What is a true and proper worship? John 4:24 There must be a spiritual aspect to our worship or it is NOT acceptable. Spiritual means an offering of yourself, submitting yourself to Him. He is waiting for you, for me, to make Him Lord of our lives so we can truly worship Him. All true and acceptable worship comes from the heart. Remember our communion earlier? 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Same Question as last four weeks
Are we willing to say “Jesus I am yours!” Are we? If so and we are living sacrifices we WILL put the words of God into practice. We will not be as those in Ezekiel 33:30-32
