Resurrection Sunday 2019

Resurrection Sunday 2019

Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.

Anointed Twice

Mark 14:1-9 An anointing of Jesus with nard by a woman who would be remembered wherever the gospel

Acts 10:37-38 Peter speaks of God anointing Jesus after His baptism

Last Supper

Mark 14:22-25 Jesus provides instructions for communion that we follow to this day.

This was followed by His arrest, flogging, crucifixion – and burial. Three days later He rose to unbelief.

Unbelief/Belief

Mark 16:9-13 The unbelief was incredible! Three witnesses, yet the unbelief persisted.

Mark 16:14 Jesus appears to His eleven disciples and they believed.

Matthew 28:1-15 Unbelief is not recorded here, but a lie was hatched by the chief priests with the guards

Matthew 28:16-17 Having met Jesus they worshipped Him, but some still doubted.

Luke 24:1-12 Once again they did not believe the women, but Peter wondered after going to the tomb.

Luke 24:36-44 Jesus appears to 2 then among the disciples and they believed.

John 20:1-10 Unbelief, not understanding. John believed, but we do not know what he believed.

John 20:11-18 Mary Magdalene believed after seeing and speaking with Jesus. Did the disciples? No.

John 20:19-20 Jesus appears to the disciples, they were overjoyed and believed.

Resurrection’s Importance

1 Corinthians 15:14-22 Paul shows how the resurrection of Jesus is of vital importance. Incredibly vital. If He had not risen Paul’s preaching is useless … as would be mine and all other preachers and teachers of the word of God. But Paul emphatically states Jesus did rise from the dead. He has no doubts or dis-belief.

The Last Disciple to Believe and Our Blessing as Believers

John 20:24-29 The disciple Thomas did not believe the testimony of all his fellow disciples. Then Jesus appeared and Thomas believed.
Then Jesus announced His blessing after Thomas believed: Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.

Paul’s Testimony

1 Corinthians 15:2-8 First a summary of the gospel including the resurrection of Jesus. He ends with Jesus appearing to Him.
And again Jesus blessing from John 24-29 for those of us who have not seen Him and yet believe.
Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.

Do you believe?
If you believe, do you live as if you believe?

How are we living? Are we living as believers?
Are we following Jesus or just playing church?

Am I following Jesus?
Are you following Jesus?
