John 14:5-14

John 14:5-14

John 14:6Vintage message from our 2002-2003 radio program called “Perspective” aired July 6, 2003.

Chapter 14 gives us this amazing statement from Jesus directly to you and to [me], that we do not have to be troubled in heart, but that we should and could put our trust in God, also putting our trust in the Person of Jesus, because He tells them, this is for a purpose…

Was Jesus only a good man and a good teacher?… Either He is lying to us, or He is Who He says He is… It amazes me that people still…say, “But we don’t know the way! Oh, but, yeah, Jesus is a good man. I believe that. And Jesus is a good teacher. Yeah, He was nice and moral and all that, but how can we know? How can we know how to get to heaven?” Jesus answers, verse 6, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except though Me. If you really knew Me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know Him and have seen  Him.” Does this sound like the words of a “sane” man? Does this sound like the words of a man that is “good”? He has just told us He is the way. There is no other way to heaven. If you don’t go through Jesus, if you do not see Jesus as the Father, then you will not see the Father. Jesus has just told us.

There are many pastors that I know that try to apologize for having to teach that Jesus is the only way. Well, you know what? It’s not my fault. I’m not the one who said it. You can believe it or not. That’s not up to me to do in you…

Salvation comes through Jesus, and Jesus is the One Who said it. No one — this is an all-inclusive statement. And this is where men struggle. Well, what about those men lost in Africa who never heard the Word of God? What about the babies who died? “No one comes to the Father except through Me.” What about those people in Africa, those people in South America, those people who died 200 years ago who weren’t exposed to the teaching of Jesus? I’ll let Jesus reconcile that when they stand before Him. You know what? It is not up to me and it is not up to you to reconcile that, but Jesus is the One Who said it. No one comes to the Father except through Him. He will deal with those people and their salvation when they get there, just as He will deal with your salvation and my salvation when we get there, based on what knowledge we chose to believe. He’s the One Who set the standard. He’s the One Who laid it out for us…

To say that you believe in Jesus, that you accept Jesus, that really you are accepting His teaching, you’re accepting what He says about Himself and the responsibility, then, that we have to that teaching…

Trust comes through conflict and working through that conflict and developing relationship. A child learns to trust Mom and Dad, and that child knows that Mom and Dad generally have its best in mind… Trust in God. Trust in the Name of Jesus. Look for that mansion that He’s building in His Father’s house. Don’t look to the things that you can have on this earth. And then know that Jesus is the way, Jesus is the truth, and Jesus is the life. It’s His idea, not mine. Name it and claim it if you want, but all you’re going to end up with is a bunch of rusty, decaying, falling apart junk while those who truly believe  are going to display the love of God the Father.
