John 8:38-59

John 8:38-59

John 8:47Vintage message from our 2002-2003 radio program called “Perspective” aired March 23, 2003.

One of the things that I hear — and I hear it time and again from those that say they believe in God — they’ll say, “I love God in my own way.” Well, you know, there’s a problem when you say that I love God in my own way; that Jesus came to tell us how He, as part of the Godhead, desired to be loved…

No matter how hard you work, no matter how hard you try, no matter how many good things you do, you will never, ever be set free from the flesh that binds you, from the issues of sin in your life that hold you bound. Jesus, in His teaching, walking with Him, holding to that that He’s taught us, is the only thing that will set us free. Then, then when we are in the truth of God’s Word, when we are in the truth that Jesus laid down for us, then we’re set free…

Many who come to church week in and week out don’t believe because their ears are closed. Their hearts are heard. They’re born of the flesh…

This is an exciting thing! This is amazing! That simply by putting our faith and our trust in the Word that Jesus gave us that we can overcome death, that we can have that desire of our heart that brings us into a place of immortality. So often, though, our problem is that we want immortality while still in this flesh, but this flesh is not meant now to see eternity. It’s meant to die and turn back into the dust from which it came. It’s the spirit that God has put inside, that this flesh houses… And it is at that point, when we give up the flesh, when we give up the flesh desire, when we give up the need to fulfill the flesh, we put that behind us [and] we begin to understand the language of heaven, we being to understand the language of God’s love. we begin to understand the words, the truth that Jesus brought to us, and then we hold to His teaching. We keep His Word. We do not deny His Word because we want to feel good about ourself and deny major portions of His Word. It’s not about whether or not I feel good about myself. It’s about the love that Jesus has for me and the truth that He gave us from His Word, and He is doing this that we might not have to stand before the Judge and be declared guilty and sent away from heaven for that eternity…

See, it is about keeping the Word of God the Father. It is about keeping the Word of Jesus, His Son. If you’re not in God’s Word, if you’re not studying God’s Word, how can you honor Him? How can you be right with Him? We need to be about studying and knowing and living within God’s Word and then rejoicing.
