More Revolution & Armor of God & Final Greetings

Review: Last week was about a REVOLUTION IN THE HOME AND MARRIAGE.

v8-10 Revolution begins here because as Christians, Ephesians and we are no longer darkness, but light in the Lord and we are to live as children of light.

v18b-20 When Paul finishes his list of activities we are no longer to be engaged in having moved from darkness to light he begins to tell us how we are to live as Christians, as children of light. This is where the revolution begins by the changes in our behavior. The foundation of a Christian marriage it begins here. The rest of the chapter is rests upon that knowledge. We cannot implement the rest of the beg without starting here.

v21 Submission. The key to the revolution in marriage begins here bringing spirit filled believers into submission with each other.

v25, 28, 33 Love implements the marriage revolution.

25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her

28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.

33 However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

It is an unselfish “love,” ready to serve – Men, we lead by serving in the home.

We may not live in a home with a Christian husband and a Christian wife, but if we do we have our instructions on how we are to live and treat one another. If we do not live in such a home or live in a home where a spouse has died or has left the family we still have our instructions. We know what we are too look for in a husband or a wife if we wish to have a revolutionary home where a man loves his wife with agapaos loving and the wife submits to the leadership of a man who loves her in this way – loving her every single day. In this way he earns her respect.

Children  Not unusual, except Paul ties it to the fifth commandment and the instruction for Parents that follows.

Parents Notice the training and instruction mentioned is of the Lord. How do we do that? Not by “Do as I say, not as I do” as that is a recipe for disaster. Instead continue the revolution, let your child see you living as a Christian.

Slaves Over 50% of the population consisted of slaves, sometimes up to 67% or two-thirds of the population. They are told to serve their masters in such a way as to show they are different as Christian slaves.

Masters If you are a Christian and you have slaves, they are not truly your property, they belong to God. Of greatest importance is that when you stand before God, there is no difference between slave and master. The only difference will be how you treated one another. Galatians 5:6b The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.  This is revolutionary, thus the revolution continues.

God’s Armor  Paul answers an unasked, but understood question here, “How are we to live in this new way, this revolutionary way in this world so full of sin and temptation?” Paul says you cannot unless succeed unless you put on the full armor of God. Jesus gave His own example of this in Luke 11:24-26.

Pray for me Paul seeks intercessory prayer. Why? So he can continue to preach the word of God fearlessly.

Final Greetings  Paul is in jail, but he sends Tychicus to encourage them! Additional rendering of verse 24

Grace and immortality to all who love our Lord Jesus Christ.

May we continue this revolution of how to live in today’s culture by wearing the full armor of God so we may stand firm.
