Vs 1 – “He went to dine”
We should not completely withdraw from all unconverted people.
Vs 3 – “Sabbath”
What is the Sabbath really for? The Sabbath was created for Man as a benefit not a disadvantage.
Vs 1-6 – being in the presence of the Lord and missing him completely.
Vs 7-11 – All centered around HUMILITY
“The wise person knows himself and will find nothing within to make him proud” J. C. Ryle
What is humility? The disposition of valuing or assessing oneself appropriately; especially in light of one’s sinfulness or creatureliness.
The ROOT of humility is RIGHT KNOWLEDGE
What is Pride? Unreasonable and inordinate self-esteem. Audacious or arrogant behavior to which one does not have a right.
Proverbs 11:2 – When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom.
Vs 11 – Reference Luke 18:9-14 (The Pharisee and the Tax Collector)
Vs 12-14 – All centered around YOUR HEART’S MOTIVE
Vs 12 and 14 – “Repaid”
Who do you want to repay you? Man or God?
“If one does something knowing it will be repaid, then it is an exchange rather than a gift.”
Eduard Schweizer
Jeremiah 17:9-10
Only the Lord knows our hearts. We can fool everyone, even to the point of fooling ourselves. However, God is never fooled.
