2 Samuel 4:1-12

2 Samuel 4:1-12

2 Samuel 4:1Vintage message from March 28, 1999.

And I believe that this is what God is calling us to in this nation today, calling me to in my heart: to find very clear guidelines to what is right and to what is wrong… You know, we are given very clear guidelines in God’s Word. We look at what’s going on in our world today, and you know what? I have no problem looking out and saying, “That’s wrong. That’s wrong. That’s wrong. That’s right.” Because God’s Word gives me that clear guideline. But you know what? Most people, even if they have a Bible, leave it sitting on the shelf, and they are swayed by opinion of other men. They are swayed by circumstances that other men have come through… What are the policies within our nation today that might give us the idea that it’s right to live lifestyles that the Bible says is clearly wrong? I’m not even going to go through the list of sins. You can imagine. There is enough that we could get into in our lives today that our government says that it is okay to do. They will voice it out loud, “It is okay for us to live these lifestyles.” But you know what? Some where down the line we will be called to an account…

In God’s great love for us, God gives us freedom. God is not going to force any one of us to live a life that we do not want to live even if that life is what is best for us. He allows for us to sin. He allows for us to make the wrong choices… But understand, you will be held accountable for your actions… God is not going to force us to be good, but God gives us every opportunity to be good. God gives us all the knowledge we need right here within these pages to know how to be good, to live right, to make clear choices between right and wrong. There’s not as much gray as what you might think…

If we go through the mental list of our life, if we match it to God’s Word, we would have to come to the conclusion that I have been living a wrong life. I have been sinning against God. And you know what? He loves me enough to be patient. But now He’s revealed it, and what do you do when God reveals it to you? You can either stand firm in your arrogance until punishment is brought to you…or, you can confess, “Yes, Lord, that’s wrong. Forgive me.” This is what God wants to do for us. This was the reason Jesus came: was to forgive; was to deal with those attitudes of our heart that are wrong. He will forgive us. He will be patient. He wants to deal with us. He wants to have relationship, and He has given us the clear guideline. He’s not going to step out of those guidelines for us, but He’ll wait patiently for us to come back to the guidelines. He will wait patiently for us to come back within the confines of His Word to know how to have that relationship. But He’s definitely not going to say, “Because you lived the life, that’s okay, it wasn’t sin.” He wants us to come to the place of understanding if we’re wrong before Him, we’re wrong, and we can confess that. And if we’re right, we only have reason to rejoice. But understand, the only right there is right that is found within relationship with God; found within relationship with Jesus Christ and the blood that He shed on the cross.
