2 Samuel 3:1-5

2 Samuel 3:1-5

2 Samuel 3:1Vintage message from February 21, 1999.

Gentlemen, the only way to have a soft heart before God is to be in His Word and humbling yourself before Him and loving your wife. It doesn’t happen any other way, and Jesus addresses it. We are hard of heart… We’ve all come to those places in our lives where we have grown discontent with that that God has given us… I don’t care who you are — man, woman, or child — none of us have the right to say, “I do not have time to be in God’s Word. I do not have time to study what it is that God has for me,” because there is time available. We just have to take it. I don’t care who you are or how important you think you are, how important you think your job is…you’re not too important to pick up that Bible. None of us have a position in life that says that we are allowed the privilege of being too busy to read God’s Word… It should cause each of us to go on a search of God’s heart…

It also tells me that God, because He’s a loving God, He loves us enough to allow for us to make choices, even wrong choices. He allows for us to make choices that will make a mess of our lives. He allows for us to make choices that will even harm us in the future because He loves us. How do you reconcile that? He loves me but He’ll allow me to make the wrong choices? But He does, because He has also given us His Word. He has given us the ability to search and make all of the right decisions. He has given us the ability to come to conclusion before we make decisions that are wrong…

If you are not searching God’s Word, if you are not digging to find out what God’s Word has to say to you, your life is headed for disaster. You will make wrong choices. You will make mistakes. You’ll make decisions that are outside of God’s plan for you… Search God’s Word. It is never too late to become godly… We become God’s godly offspring when we do it by His pattern, when we do it by His Word, when we do it the way He established it. And let me tell you, we don’t have all the clear answers so we have to dig. He doesn’t always just come right out and say, “Yes, do it this way. No, don’t do it that way,” so we have to dig. We have to continually be in God’s Word searching God’s heart, because you know what? I think it would really be too easy if God did give us everything as a commandment. Then we would look at our favorite do’s and don’ts and live as a Pharisee.
