1 Samuel 18:10-30

1 Samuel 18:14 We have a loving patient caring Father in heavenVintage message from October 4, 1998. (The original message was cut off at the end.)

There are times in our lives that we feels like the Holy Spirit has left. There are times in our lives that we are caught off guard and we fall to sin or we fall to arrogance or we fall to pride or we fall to jealousy. There are times in our lives today when we believe that maybe the Holy Spirit…has departed, and we look at people around us with jealousy. We look at people around us with envy. But understand something. If the Holy Spirit has ever been in you, if He has taken up residence in you because you’ve invited Him in, if you don’t feel Him, it’s not because He’s left. It’s because you have started to ignore Him. First and foremost, He will never leave you or forsake you. If I don’t feel Him, it’s because I’m not paying attention. He’s there. We don’t have to become jealous of other people’s ministries. We don’t have to become jealous about what God is doing in another man’s life…

But you know what? We have a loving, patient, caring Father in heaven. And because He created us, He knows who we are and why we do what we do, and He’s patient and long-suffering. He gives us every opportunity. And like Saul, we can begin to look around us at the people that God is using, we can become jealous in our heart, we can become envious in our heart, or we can put our eyes back where they belong. Take them off the people around us and put them back on the Lord. Repent of what we’re doing and why we’re doing and how we’re doing it and just simply walk with Him…

Are we willing today to be used of God simply because God wants to use us? How many of us found ourselves saying, “God bless me. God bless me. God bless me.”? We say “God bless me” because we want God somehow to reward us for the things we do for Him. What if God never blessed you in any way that you perceived in life, would you still serve Him? If God took your house away from you, if God took your car away from you, if God took your kids away from you, if God took everything that you perceive in your life as a blessing away from you, would you still serve Him? Would you still love Him? These are questions I believe we need to ask ourselves today…

Oftentimes when we wander away from the Lord, we lose perspective. I have seen many people wander away from the Lord. All of a sudden they fail to see the power that God has had in their life. They fail to see the power that God has had in other people’s lives. All of a sudden we create God in our own image, and we make Him a weak nothing. God can do nothing… Understand, if you walk away from the Lord, if you fall away, you lose perspective. God does not cease to be powerful. We just cease to see Him as powerful…

If we will just continue to walk faithfully in all that God has done in us, He will continue to work in us… If we do not want God working in our life…God will not force Himself on us. God wants willing vessels. God wants vessels that will say, “I’m here. Use me.” If we say, “No way,” He won’t use us! God is always loving. God is always gentle. God is always caring. We become belligerent. We become hateful. We become destructive. God does not. God waits for us to say, “Use me, Lord.” And then He uses us.
