Romans 8:38-39    NIV

38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,

39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:38-39    TLV

38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers,

39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Messiah Yeshua our Lord.

The New International Version (NIV) and the Tree of Life Version (TLV) are very similar as are most versions at Both make the same argument: once you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior you cannot be separated from the love of God. And that is because His love was expressed in Jesus and what He did on the cross.

The two verses above are very strong statements that once you have accepted the Grace (unmerited favor) offered by God through His Son Jesus on the cross when He paid the price for all of our sins. To trust and believe in Christ’s sacrifice on the cross is to believe God in His love for us made it possible for us to be forgiven for all of our sins and then have a relationship with Him.

Paul begins his statement showing believers simply cannot be separated from God’s love. Not even death, nor all the efforts of angels (fallen angels), nor principalities, nor demons, and in fact nothing in all creation. So great is God’s love for those who have accepted what Christ did for them on the cross that He will not let anything separate us from His love.

Bottom Line: This statement of God’s love is so great we want to seek His will in our lives instead of seeking Him to help us live our lives as we will it. God’s love is greater than that between husband and wife or between parents and their children. I have often told our children and grandchildren that I will always love them, but God will always love them much much more.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your love being so strong I never have to worry about you deserting me under any circumstances. It is as if we have become attached for all eternity and that is the reality once I have accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. – In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
