Founding Pastor Dave Elkins

Founding Pastor Dave ElkinsOur founding pastor, Dave Elkins, went home to be with the Lord on October 2, 2015.

Dave became a Christian when he was 15, and he served as a missionary both before and after he was married to Maria. He and his wife spent two years being trained in Christian service through Youth With A Mission (YWAM).

Pastor Dave was ordained as a Calvary Chapel pastor in 1991. He, his wife, and his two young daughters (Lydia and Bethany) then moved from San Diego, California to Dayton, Ohio in order to start Calvary Chapel Dayton. In June of 1991, he started a Bible study in their living room. The little fellowship quickly outgrew their home, and they moved to larger, rented facilities. In 2005, the church purchased their current church building, located on the border of Dayton and Beavercreek, near the intersection of Highway 35 and Interstate 675.

Pastor Dave’s heart was to teach the importance of God’s love, God’s grace, and the need to read and understand the Bible. He served in Dayton for 24 years, faithfully loving the people God brought to him, right up to his very last minutes on earth. He is deeply missed.

You can still hear hundreds of his messages right here on this website. Most of the messages dated before October 2015 are by Pastor Dave, or you can search by speaker.

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:36-40)

It gave me great joy when some believers came and testified about your faithfulness to the truth, telling how you continue to walk in it. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth. (3 John 1:3-4)
