PART 5: Life Affirming Scriptures (all ESV)
Mark 8:35. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it.
Mark 10:17. As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. “Good teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
Luke 9:24. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it.
Luke 10:25-28. On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?” He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”
Luke 12:15. Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”
Luke 12:23. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes.
Luke 12:25. Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life?
Luke 17:33. Whoever tries to keep their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life will preserve it.
Luke 21:19. Stand firm, and you will win life.
John 1:4. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.
John 3:14-15. Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.
John 3:16-17. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
John 3:36. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.
John 5:21. For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it.
John 5:24. “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.
John 5:39b-40. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life.
Today we made it about one quarter of the way through the book of John. Perhaps we will finish it tomorrow. I no longer am assured we will get through the book of Revelation this week and then back to the normal Verse of the Day. But there is always hope.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, Thank You for showing us just how much Jesus has to say in Your word affirming life. is. Thank you for Your Son Jesus and His death on the cross with the promise of eternal life for us when He paid the price for our sin. – In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
