Isaiah 57:1-2

Isaiah 57:1-2

1 The righteous perish, and no one takes it to heart; the devout are taken away,
and no one understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil.
2 Those who walk uprightly enter into peace; they find rest as they lie in death.

Ah, we skip over Isaiah 52 and 53 which so strongly prophesize Jesus dying on a cross for our sins. Then skipping over Isaiah 54 about The Future Glory of Zion, followed by chapter 55’s Invitation to the Thirsty and chapter 56’s Salvation for Others and God’s Accusation Against the Wicked before coming to today’s chapter and verses. The verses for today are a continuation of chapter 56’s God’s Accusation Against the Wicked with the first two verse, above, contrasted with His plans for the wicked.

So what happens when we die if we are followers of Christ Jesus? Well according to the above, something that should be taken to heart, is that we are spared from evil or further evil and we enter into peace while our bodies find rest as they lie in death. Paul expounded upon this when he said

13 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. 14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 2 Thessalonians 4

Clear enough, when you die your spirit joins Jesus awaiting His return when the bodies of those with Him will be resurrected in immortal form

16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 2 Thessalonians 4

Often times we do not understand why God takes a believing brother or sister in Christ home to be with Him, but here we are given an explanation. It does not mean it will be easy to accept, but we can believe He does this out of love for the devout and it is something we should take to heart with great understanding.

Take time to read through these chapters and make up your own mind and let your heart tell you the truth it perceives within these verses.
