Genesis 26:1-6

Genesis 26:1-6

1 Now there was a famine in the land—besides the previous famine in Abraham’s time—and Isaac went to Abimelek king of the Philistines in Gerar. 2 The Lord appeared to Isaac and said, “Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land where I tell you to live. 3 Stay in this land for a while, and I will be with you and will bless you. For to you and your descendants I will give all these lands and will confirm the oath I swore to your father Abraham. 4 I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and will give them all these lands, and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, 5 because Abraham obeyed me and did everything I required of him, keeping my commands, my decrees and my instructions.” 6 So Isaac stayed in Gerar.
Genesis 26:1-6

The Lord said to Isaac Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land where I tell you to live. Stay in this land for a while, and I will be with you and will bless you. For to you and your descendants I will give all these lands and will confirm the oath I swore to your father Abraham. I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and will give them all these lands, and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed. Why did He say this? [B]ecause Abraham obeyed me and did everything I required of him, keeping my commands, my decrees and my instructions.

As a result Isaac stayed in Gerar and greatly prospered. The point of this is to show each and every one of us, obeying and/or submitting to God can have consequences far beyond our own lives. Often we obey or submit for our own goals, our own desires, our own lives, but God sees far beyond our own lives. Your children may stray. While straying they may still tell stories about your faith. In telling these stories your grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and cousins may embolden their curiosity to find out just what your faith was all about and why you became a Christian.

Your life as a Christian may impact and affect those well beyond your immediate circle while you have no idea God is using you to do just that. An example of how God’s promise Abraham’s seed would be a blessing to all the earth can be seen in the number of patents issued to Israelis as well as the number of Nobel prizes for science. You may read about it here and here. It is amazing a country only 10% the size of the United States could do so much.

In generations to come or in years to come you may learn – from heaven – all you have influenced and impacted to look to their creator. When Jesus returns how many will He find you have inspired to follow Him. How you live your life can have reverberations you are totally unaware of, so live your life for Jesus who died for you and let His blessings be shared with as many others as possible.
