to obey is better than sacrifice / obedience is better than sacrifice *
December 24, 2019 – Tuesday
Overwhelmed today with food distribution. Our church and a number of others have been blessed by the Life Enrichment Center aka LEC with lots and lots and lots of food. Way more than our church can use.
What to do? Give away as much as possible. Let God use us to gift other people. Today we were able to gift a Father’s daughter and her neighbors as he took her much more than she could use. Then gave to a family who could use some plus they have neighboring families who could also use some as well, so they took a great deal too.
Then we were left with three 40 pound boxes of frozen chicken and no room to store them. One more phone call and suddenly the secretary of another church agreed to take all 120 pounds to her chest freezer to later be thawed out, divided and shared within her church. Lots of various vegetables left and someone we had called hours earlier said she could take some for some folks in her church.
Unexpectedly God had solved all of our problems of what to do with all that food that he had put in our hands. That’s how God works. We should not have been surprised, that is simply what He does.
Just as tomorrow we will celebrate the birth of His Son, our Savior, Jesus the Christ. We needed a savior and what did God do? He provided one in the form of a helpless babe born in a stable, sleeping in the straw and swaddling cloth in a manger, the feeding trough for the animals.
We are amazed that God would so humble Himself to present Himself as a helpless gift to all of mankind. But that is what He did. There is no way we can repay such a gift especially when 30 years later He would humble Himself. He would permit Romans to nail Him to a cross and a lance into His side to ensure His death all for us, to give us the gift of Grace.
This is why He was born. To pay the price for our sins so we might be saved and be able to join Him in heaven as sons and daughters of God.
I don’t know what you will get or have gotten for Christmas, but nothing can compete with such a gift from God Himself. Take time to give thanks tonight and tomorrow for the wonderful gift of Grace. Enjoy the day and your family, but most of all enjoy and think of that wonderful Free Gift of Grace!
