2 Corinthians 4:16-18

2 Corinthians 4:16-18

16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
2 Corinthians 4:16-18

So, today is the day after Christmas when we are looking at what we received or didn’t receive for Christmas in the way of gifts or phone calls or visits. Then what do we receive as verses for today?

Verses telling us not to lose heart! Don’t lose heart even if we are wasting away! Why not? Because inwardly we are being renewed day by day. So what is going on here? Well, we all know our bodies, no matter how much care we give them, are gradually decaying and that is a given in this life. However, inwardly our spiritual person is literally being renewed day by day whereupon we actually gain new and fresh energy.

If this doesn’t make sense to you, go to a church that is alive in Christ. There you will see old people, some in poor health, some – for their age – in amazing health and the remarkable thing is how alive they are in general and especially when talking about someone they love or about God’s love for all of us. Their level of energy almost has to be seen to be believed. This has much to do with them not losing heart over troubles of this life because their eyes are fixed not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. Simply stated, they are people of faith and their faith sustains them.

So, a few very interesting verses to consider the day after Christmas. I say this with my 71st birthday rapidly approaching and days of low energy, but often days of great and incredible energy. The idea of being renewed day by day gives me hope that a time of revival, great revival, is coming as more and more of the world succumbs to more and more evil impulses and desires.

May you be renewed day by day!
