1 Thessalonians 3:12-13

12 May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you. 13 May He strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all his holy ones.
1 Thessalonians 3:12-13

Who is going to be blameless and holy in the presence of our God? Paul is praying in this letter to the believers in Thessalonica that the Lord would strengthen their hearts. How is that going to happen? First by the Lord make their love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else. The idea being they – and we – are to be increasing in love for each other and for everyone else.

The idea behind being blameless and holy is to be set apart from the world and unto God. To be truly holy, a person has to be separated from sin dominated his or her life. Likewise they would be separated from the pattern of the world including putting their selves first. In doing this they are separated to God as David Guzik writes.

This is the point, we are to choose God over the world. We are to love especially each other – all fellow Christians – and the rest of mankind as well. We are thankful He strengthens our hearts because as the verse says when our Lord Jesus comes we want to be ready … and He could return today or tomorrow. We don’t know when, so we should either be ready or preparing ourselves to be ready. Of course we could meet Him on any given day as we do not know when we might die from any number of causes. All we have to do is listen to a bit of the news and know that death can come at any time or age.

So, let us pray the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else and that He strengthens our hearts so that we will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father no matter how we end up meeting Jesus.

It’s Monday, and I hope you have a Great Week and ponder how you can be less and less in or of the world and instead be more separated to God.
