Vintage Message: John 3:22-36

Vintage message from our 2002-2003 radio program called “Perspective” aired October 13, 2002.

[Jesus] has taken every step, gone to every length, to make sure you and I understand His love for us. He has gone to such extreme lengths for us to understand that love that He was even willing to die so that you and I would understand that love, and He did it in such a way that He did not condemn us for who we were though, yes, He also says we must change who and what we are to become who and what it is that He desires for us to be. But He gives us the formula on how to do that. He doesn’t leave that up to us to figure out on our own, but He tells us that He will give us His Holy Spirit Who will become our Teacher, Who will become our Comforter, Who will be the One Who instigates the change within us. He’s not leaving it up to us. And if we should choose, from that point, to ignore Him and ignore the Holy Spirit that’s given and to not receive Him, then we choose the separation…

He did not come into the world to condemn the world. The world was already condemned. We condemned ourselves by not being true to God’s Word. By not being true to God’s Law. And let me tell you, if you’ve broken that Law even once, you have not been true to it because that Law dictates perfection for us to stand in the presence of a Holy God. We choose. It is not His desire for us to be separated from Him, so much so that He came to us with a message of love, and He was so determined in His love that He sacrificed the most precious part of Himself, that that was the most valuable to Him. He sacrificed it in the form of His Son, Jesus Christ, that you and I might know what salvation was. And yet, somehow, that’s not good enough for most people, and even many people who call themselves Christians and go to church every day will look at me and say, “Well, of course, Dave. God has to accept me into heaven. I go to church. I’m a good person.” But that is not the standard that He’s laid out…

We can choose to be with Him now and we can accept His gesture of love and receive His Son, Jesus Christ, into our life, or we can stand condemned, rightly condemned, because we refuse the truth, and we refuse the light, and we refuse the life that He offered to give us…

You know what? It’s not about you and I. It is about the love of a Father for the people He created, and it is about the love that His Son also has for these people because He was the vital part: the Word that was spoken that brought us into being. He loves us, and it is about Him, and letting a lost and dying world know of the love that He had and the lengths He was willing to go to, to share that love. And some days, He uses me. Some days I’m out there and my mouth is just going a million miles an hour, and I’m sharing with everybody I meet. And other days, my mouth is silent… It’s not about me. It’s not about the points I can make for “saving” anybody. It is only about me allowing for Jesus to increase, and if by His increase, I have to decrease, praise God for it.
